Terms of Service | Kitchenote

The gist

Use Kitchenote to save, organise, and cook from recipes. Don't misuse it, don't hurt others with it, don't try to break it. Kitchenote Pro is a subscription — it auto-renews and is managed through Apple. Here are the full terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Kitchenote ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the App. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Boldoath Co., Ltd. (株式会社Boldoath), a company registered in Japan.

2. Your Account

You may use certain features without an account, but syncing across devices, shared groups, and AI features require one. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account within the app. Deletion is permanent and removes all your data from our servers within 30 days.

3. What the App Does

Kitchenote is a recipe management app that lets you:

Save and organise recipes from websites, photos, or by typing them in manually
Store kitchen notes linked to recipes
Share recipes and notes with group members
Use AI-powered features to look up ingredients and cooking techniques
Track your cooking history and preferences

4. Kitchenote Pro Subscription

Kitchenote offers a paid subscription — Kitchenote Pro — that unlocks additional features. Key terms:

Billing: Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID via the App Store. We never see your payment details.
Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
Pricing: Subscription prices are displayed in the App before purchase. Prices may vary by region and are set in local currency where applicable.
Free trial: If a free trial is offered, it will convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand.
Cancellation: Cancel any time via Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then.
Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple under Apple's standard refund policy. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund, use Apple's Report a Problem page.
Manage subscription: All subscription management is through Apple's standard interfaces.

5. AI-Powered Features

Kitchenote includes AI features powered by Claude (Anthropic, Inc.). When you use these features, relevant content from your request is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. Please be aware:

Not professional advice: AI responses are informational only and do not constitute professional culinary, nutritional, medical, or dietary advice. Always verify food safety information from authoritative sources.
Accuracy: AI responses may contain errors. We make no guarantee that AI-generated content is accurate, complete, or suitable for your specific circumstances.
Allergies and health conditions: If you have serious food allergies or health conditions, do not rely solely on AI responses. Consult a qualified professional.
Daily limits: Free accounts have a daily AI request limit. Kitchenote Pro includes a higher limit as specified in the app.

6. Your Content

Ownership: You own the content you create in Kitchenote — your recipes, notes, and comments are yours.

Licence to us: By using the App, you grant Boldoath Co., Ltd. a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display your content solely to provide the service to you. We do not use your content for advertising.

Third-party recipes: Recipes imported from websites may be protected by copyright. You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with applicable law and the source website's terms. The App is intended for personal, non-commercial use — do not redistribute recipes commercially.

Shared content: Content you share to a group is visible to all members of that group. Think before you share.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation
Harass, abuse, or harm other users through shared groups or comments
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App
Use automated tools or bots to access, scrape, or abuse the App's services
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data
Share content that is defamatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful
Abuse AI features through intentional misuse, prompt injection, or attempts to circumvent rate limits

Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

The App will be available at all times or free from errors
Recipe imports will always be accurate or complete
AI-generated responses will be accurate, complete, or safe to rely on
The App will meet your specific requirements

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BOLDOATH CO., LTD. SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP OR ANY AI-GENERATED CONTENT, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

In plain terms: if something goes wrong with the App — a recipe imports incorrectly, an AI response is wrong, or a sync fails — we're not liable for consequential loss. Always verify recipes and AI suggestions before relying on them, especially for cooking for others or for dietary restrictions.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations of liability. In those places, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

10. Food Safety

The App imports and displays recipes but does not verify their accuracy or safety. You are solely responsible for ensuring food is properly prepared, cooked to safe temperatures, and appropriate for anyone eating it — particularly regarding allergens. When in doubt, consult reliable food safety resources or a qualified professional.

11. Changes to the App

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the App at any time. We will try to give advance notice for significant changes, but we are not obligated to maintain any specific feature permanently.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the App before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Termination

You can stop using the App and delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. For serious violations (e.g., illegal activity, abuse of other users), we may act without prior notice.

14. Our Content

The App's design, code, branding, and original content are owned by Boldoath Co., Ltd. and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute them without our written permission.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country requires otherwise. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under applicable local consumer law.
